We decided on the library because we all know the rules for the library intrinsically, but how often do we really think about them? As students, libraries have been a part of our lives since childhood. At the university level, the library becomes a resource central to all of our studies. We know the library will provide us with a quiet place to study, resources for any papers we are assigned and flexible hours to meet the bounty of student's study needs. The privilege of using the library's facilities comes with the expectation that everyone follows a specific set of guidelines.
Here is a link to OU's official policies. We know this isn't the list in its entirety, though. There are many other rules we know that go unspoken. For example:
- Be responsible
- Be courteous
- Be quiet
- No food or drinks
- Clean up after yourself
- Reserve rooms in advance
- Send materials requests early
- Return your books on time
- Place books on carts after use
- Don't write in the books
- Pay attention to signs
- Dress appropriately
- After midnight, have your ID ready
- Be recycling aware
We've created a podcast of our discussion about the rules and places of the library.
